Google Chrome Update - Java Plugin
Google Chrome is supposed to accept Java plugin. It currently requires Java 6, Update 10, which is a Beta release and may not be as stable as what you’re used to. You can get it here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/ea.jsp
The Google help forum says you should get an option to automatically download the option, but I can confirm that I did not. I downloaded the installer, passed on getting OpenOffice.org installed on my machine, went through about 5 minutes of total download and installation.
Restart G-Chrome, hit my online Farkle Dice Game, and after a few moments for the Applets to be updated, we were off and running.
Flash is a better story. Google Chrome ships with flash. It took me only a couple of moments to pop over to my Family Citadel, Free PC Protection site, to verify Flash worked like a charm.
Ran through a couple of Web2.0 sites with all the bells and whistles. Still no issues.
I’m trying some weird stuff, and still having pretty good luck. I do miss things like my “Stumbleupon” bar, and my flock social links, but I understand this is a different product altogether. No toolbars, but fast and lean.

Thanks for this post.
Thanks
Some friend have had issues with installing the Java plugin. Clearing cache, and restarting browser seemed to fix it for them. Love to know if anyone is having any issues!
Are you able to access Facebook, I cannot at the moment with Chrome
Yeah, update 10 seems to work. I’d prefer a stable release. Good info, thanks for posting.
I have so far found two major issues with Google Chrome. One is that i can’t use logmein to control remote computers. I get HTML screenshots of the page rather than a working interface. Secondly, viewing PDF’s is slow and cumbersome. Other than that it’s a great nimble looking browser.
Wow, Steve, that’s quite an achievement there for you.
Tomorrow we’ll start on the Adobe Flash plugin and then maybe we can get to the multiplication table.
@Damien - Thanks for the helpful comment. If you read the post you don’t need to work on the Adobe Flash plugin, it already works, unlike the Java. So if you just point your browser to a nice flash site - http://www.Starfall.com would probably be good for you, you’ll see that you’re fine.
If you still need help with the Multiplication tables, I’ll see what I can do for you…
@Lez - Ditto on the Logmein. Not working for me either. I hadn’t even noticed - good catch. As for PDF’s, I’m not having an issue. I’ve only tested on shorter ones (under 20 pages), and the small ones seem really fast to load and view. I’ll try some larger ones later. Thanks for the info
I have also noticed that when logging in to Windows live mail it requests you to upgrade your browser. This can be bypassed, however, not all the features of windows live will work, noticeably the photo sending application which i must say compresses pictures like a champ. So i suppose there are still a few kinks to be sorted.
hey thnx man ur advice on how to doownload java 10 worked
Thanks SOOOOOOO MUCH! I can finally upload photos to Facebook with Google Chrome!
Thanks. I was wondering: are less popular browsers tracked by Vista Parental Controls? I’m having an argument with a friend about it =)
I’ve tried playing Runescape ( A java game) on Chrome, but it won’t let me. It offers to install the plugin, but it just comes up with an error and closes chrome.
It’s rather annoying
Hey there, I know Google Chrome requires Java Version 6U10 Beta, but I cannot download it! When I try to (via clicking the large yellow box telling me to do so), I am taken to the Java site to download Java V6U11. I dl’ed and installed (even though I have dial-up it didn’t take very long), and I still cannot use Java-run apps! I need Java V6U10 Beta, but it is not available to me. If anyone knows how to help, email me, please!
Thanks! Adam

If you’re still on the fence: grab your favorite earphones, head down to a Best Buy and ask to plug them into a Zune then an iPod and see which one sounds better to you, and which interface makes you smile more. Then you’ll know which is right for you.
